August 2025 Update
Northamptonshire's Roman Roads Re-Appraised.
Members with an interest in Roman Northamptonshire may wish to know about a newly published article on the county's Roman roads, featured in Itinera, the journal of the Roman Roads Research Association.  Written by Dr Wayne Kirk, the article offers a fresh perspective on several of Northamptonshire's Roman roads, drawing on lidar data alongside evidence from excavations, HER records, and aerial photography.
Dr Kirk identifies previously unrecorded Roman roads and suggests alternative routes for known ones, raising thought-provoking questions about the existence of certain routes, particularly in the south of the county.  His research provides valuable new insights into the Roman road network, updating and refining earlier work by I.D.  Margary and The Viator'es.

The Story of a 'Remarkable British archaeologist"

In the mid-1960s, Dennis Jackson emerged as one of the few full-time field archaeologists striving to keep up with the accelerating destruction brought on by modern development—particularly stone quarrying near Corby and gravel extraction in the Nene Valley.  Without his presence on the ground, much of historical significance would have been lost without record.  His autobiography details his work on Neolithic and Bronze Age burials, numerous Iron Age and Roman settlements, and an Anglo-Saxon cemetery.  It also offers analyses of pit alignments, Iron Age settlement patterns, and a proposed chronology for Iron Age pottery assemblages in Northamptonshire.
